Get your month's art fix by touring the most prestigious galleries of New York City and helping raise funds for arts education of the city's public schools by the Fund for Public Schools, a non-profit organization chaired by NYC Schools Chancellor Joel Klein and Vice-Chaired by Caroline Kennedy and Mortimer Zuckerman.

Auction: Wall Street can't touch Art...

New York Times called it a "bull market" and was just that... the day after Wall Street tanked, Sotheby's of London had a record auction of over $200.7 million in sales, for 223 works by artist Damien Hirst. This has been a record auction for a single artist, since a Picasso sale of 88 works in 1993 that reached $20 million. Sotheby's high estimate for the auction was $177.6 million, but art works like the "Fragment of Paradise" was sold for $9.3 million... three times more than its high estimate of $2.9 million. And to top things up, the highest bid of the two-day event went to "The Golden Calf" for $18.6 million... Looks like art weathers the storm no matter what...

One last bit of art summer dreaming before the season fades... Jeff Koon's greatest work to date now is undeniably a yacht, named "Guilty". The concept is based on the dazzle patterns used on warships during WW1. The yacht, owned by major Greek art collector Dakis Joannou and architecturally designed by Ivana Porfiri, brings to art a novelty like no other... Read more here.

Exhibition: Art to feel proud of...

Greek contemporary artists are showcasing their love for their country's best asset... it's Sea! In the greek island of Poros, the picturesque gallery CITRONne is exhibiting the blue that each of these artists have in them. Among them is Maria Filopoulou with her infamous "Swimmers",which after exhibitions in London, Paris and New York, they finally found their way home. Tasos Matzavinos, a true Greek, gives a darker note on his interpretation of Greece's heritage and focuses more on the traditional aspect that goes with it. Kostas Papanikolaou celebrates its light... its power of colour... un voyage dans le passe... while Nana Vetta uses waves to travel back to memory lane... The gallery is situated on a beautiful building of the 18th century on the promenade of the island. Even though it just had its one year anniversary, it has already gained an international momentum and loyal destination-art- travelers thanks to its Founder, Director and Art Historian Tatiana Spinari-Pollalis.

The japanese pop-artist, Takashi Murakami, is taking NYC by storm... From the latest and well-publicized exhibition in the Brooklyn Museum (which includes an inhouse Louis Vuitton store just for the visitors), his art sculpture in the IBM building in Madison Ave to his big Shout-out from Kanye West. Mr. Murakami has designed the graphics of Kanye West's album, "Graduation", so it was no surprise that we saw him letting loose at the Glow in The Dark Tour last night...

Art Fair: The Armory Show

Galleries from London, Paris, Berlin and New York are showcasing their big guns at the Armory show in Pier 94 of New York City this weekend. The walk is enjoyable and some of the classics stand out like the dots and the diamond skull of Damien Hirst of the Paragon Press gallery in London, the Gilbert & George antics of Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac of Paris, and the new addition of Ryan McGinley in the Alison Jacques gallery of London. However, the nouveau art is the reason one goes to these venues and what gains all the excitement... So check out the Hermes over-sized bag, priced at $75,000, by Jonathan Selligen from Jack Shainman Gallery of New York and the Idris Khan painting "Hearing Voices... Schumann's Violin concerto 2007" from Galerie Thomas Schulte in Berlin... among many others.

Exhibition:Destination... Modern Art

That is what the DIA Foundation has created with its old factory-turned museum in Beacon, Upstate New York. For the modern art enthusiast, DIA: Beacon is a real haven, all filled with the artworks of Andy Warhol, Agnes Martin, Gerhard Richter, Sol Lewitt and the out-of-this-world sculptures of Richard Serra. The art forms are given so much strength and volume because of the incredible space of this museum... it's a must-see!

The great Gregory Colbert launches his famous already "Ashes and Snow" exhibition at the Nomadic Museum - a building designed by Simon Velez- in the Zocalo, in Mexico City. Colbert captures unspoiled interactions between animals and people with the end result being dramatically spiritual. Colbert has recently created a nature bank, the Animal Copyright Foundation, which will collect 1% of any marketing budget involving animals to distribute between different animal organizations.

The 25 year old is calling himself b. and has been creating an awe to anyone that passes by his graffiti, as well as an enigma towards his identity... Street Art: Love in NYC

Our favorite sculpture of Robert Indiana is gaining all of the passengers' attention as it is decorated with the first snow of the season in the City. Indiana's iconic word "love" in upper-case letters was first published in 1964 for a Christmas card of MOMA. Since then, 14 such sculptures exist in various regions all over the United States, as well as a few of them located around the world. However, this one is by far our favorite since it is located just three streets away from its creator, the museum!

Fair: Art Basel Miami Beach

If art had a birthday, this would be it! From 6 to 9 of December art celebrates in Miami Beach on the biggest fair of its industry... A who's who of artists is been drafted annually during the three-day event, where emerging artists gain instantly a grand momentum. As the ASW magazine correctly notes "Art Basel Miami Beach is no ordinary art fair. It’s the pulsating tropical souk of the frenzied contemporary art market. And it’s a mega massive deal. It’s almost impossible to estimate how much art is sold since Basel is not the only art fair in town in early December, but in 2006 estimates suggest that the number was around $500 million".

Event: Guggenheim Young Artist's Ball 2007

On December the 13th, the Guggenheim's Young Collector's Council hosts its annual ball, in order to showcase the work of emerging and aspiring artists. A collection of Richard Prince's work is currently presented at New York's Guggenheim Museum celebrating the artist's fascination and dedication of the American culture. Richard Prince is one of the artists that will always get opposing views for his work... you either like it or you don't. The fact that he became known for reproducing other people's work, like photographing images from already publicized ads, created a steer around his name... an indulging curiosity. One must admire though that his works of art that were created during the 80s were so ahead of their time... so modern that can now be considered as classic in the post-modern era that we live in. So for the haters or the lovers... this is a must-see!

Auction: Historic Heart...

will be just that in the evening of November 14th, the "Hanging Heart" (Magenta & Gold) created by Jeff Koons, when it will be auctioned in Sotheby's New York for the estimated friendly price of $20 million dollars. The nine-foot tall stainless steel heart weighes over 3,500 pounds and needed over 6,000 man hours to complete. Jeff Koons's heart, taken from his most infamous collection yet, is really worth loving... since it will set an auction record for a living artist up to this date! Too bad it doesn't fit our living rooms...

Street Art: That's How Nobu does it...

That's not your average street art... Fernando Botero's sculpture is a jewel decorating New York's 57th street, just outside the entrance of uptown Nobu. It such a great feeling to be so laissez-faire, not caring about street graffiti and actually enjoying such displays of great art publicly... that's Bloomberg for you!
